Scandinavian Mahjong
More games to play
Scandinavian Mahjong is a free browser puzzle game where you match identical mahjong tiles to clear the board, one calm level at a time. There is no timer pushing you along, just a winter-cozy aesthetic and 365 hand-themed layouts to work through at your own pace. It plays in the browser on desktop, mobile, and Chromebook with no download needed.
What is Scandinavian Mahjong?
It is a mahjong solitaire game set inside a cozy Scandinavian home full of warm wood, soft light, and IKEA-like objects. Your job is to find two identical tiles that are both 'free' (not covered or blocked on their left or right sides) and click them to remove the pair. Each of the 365 levels is named after a real concept or object, from zodiac signs to letters of the alphabet. The mood is deliberately relaxed: calming music, no countdown clock, and light planning to decide which pairs to clear first.
Controls for matching tiles
The controls are minimal. One input does everything.
| Action | Desktop | Mobile |
|---|---|---|
| Select a tile | Left mouse button click | Tap the tile |
| Pair and clear | Click a matching free tile | Tap the matching free tile |
| Deselect | Click the selected tile again | Tap the selected tile again |
The 365 levels and what changes between them
Each level has a unique board layout and a theme name, so the structure you are solving shifts every time. Early levels have open boards with many free tiles visible at once. Later layouts stack tiles deeper, leaving fewer free pairs on the surface and asking you to think several moves ahead. The themes range from seasonal objects to abstract concepts, which gives each board a small story without changing the core rules.
| Level range | Layout feel | Planning needed |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 60 | Open boards, many free pairs visible | Light |
| 61 to 180 | Tighter stacks, fewer surface tiles | Moderate |
| 181 to 365 | Dense pyramids and layered grids | Careful sequencing |
Tips for clearing tough boards
- Start from the top of stacked piles. Removing tiles at the top frees more tiles below.
- Do not pair the first two matching tiles you see. Check whether one of them is blocking other important pairs underneath.
- If you get stuck, look for tiles that appear only twice on the board. Those pairs have one solution, so clear them first.
- Save tiles that appear in groups of four. You can pair them in any order, so they are a flexible fallback.
- The game has no timer, so take a moment to scan the whole board before each move.
Is Scandinavian Mahjong free and where can you play it?

If browser games are accessible at your school or workplace, Scandinavian Mahjong works there too. It has a 4.2 rating from over 600 players and was released in April 2024.
